Peace Post is a collection of 198 portraits of peace advocates-one for each country in the world. The project spans eight years and represents artwork from over 100 illustrators. A lot of what you hear about other countries in the news is pretty disheartening - war, poverty, violence, climate disasters. But within those stories, you’ll find people working against the current and advocating for a better and more equitable tomorrow. We wanted to shine the light on those people.
The process begins by researching each country’s history, the person, and the regional artwork found there. We then commission the portrait and frame it as a stamp. Stamps have long represented a vehicle of correspondence and dialogue, which is the project's ambition and objective. We feel that investing energy in something that expands our understanding and empathy for the world around us is a great use of time.
The final collection is wonderfully diverse in style and medium. We have painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, printmaking, and a nice mix of digital and analog. A traveling, physical exhibit has started its journey at The International Peace Museum in Dayton, Ohio, the nation's only peace museum. We are looking for other museums, libraries, and schools to host the exhibit. The goal is for it to travel around the country for the next few years. A limited run of a large format book has been printed and will be donated to select libraries. The website is a wonderful resource to experience the project and learn more about each advocate.
We hope this project lives on as an educational resource and inspires the next generation to see these countries around the world not only for their challenges but for their champions of peace.
