This project, a very special one for me, was about creating a book for the music album ‘Fenydalok’ (lit. translation: ‘Songs of light’) by the renowned singer-songwriter Bea Palya in 2024. It was not just about creating a book, it was more about creating a physical object that gives a unique experience. The singer's intention with this project was to give her audience a little more than a traditional music album, as the eight newly released songs are not the only focus here-the songs are rather the strong basis of this experience, built up from multiple layers and art forms. The soul-lifting photos accompanying the lyrics, the singer's own thoughts on the songs, her inspiring stories and her open-ended, thought-provoking questions to the readers provide a deeper connection between audience and singer. This album is a message from the heart: pure, honest and full of deep emotions. These songs, photos and lyrics tell the story of what is truly meaningful in life: real human connections, the importance of love for others and more importantly for ourselves. I wanted to emphasize and complement this idea with the minimalist design solutions, the layout and all the small details of the book. The subtitle of the album is ‘Conversation with light and darkness’ - because light never exists alone, it needs to be accompanied by darkness. The songs follow the rhythm and the swaying drift of the dance of darkness and light, which is also reflected in the photos and my small additional playful yet deeply expressive graphic elements. On her Spotify and YouTube channel, these graphic elements come to life in the form of small animations. Bea Palya is a Hungarian singer-songwriter and voice teacher. She has been singing for more than three decades and has filled concert halls throughout the world, from the Palace of Arts in Budapest to Carnegie Hall in New York. She has released 24 albums and written more than 600 songs. Her mission is to help people experience their own voice as a means of authentic self-expression and to experience the joy of singing and belonging to a community.
