While emerging tech is unleashing a wave of high tech gizmos and gadgets throughout the developed world, some of its greatest potential lies in developing nations. Across Latin America, local businesses like farmers and artisans have barriers to digital payment processing due to a lack of technology, money, and electricity. CoPago enables low tech local businesses across Latin America to accept digital payments via QR codes. By scanning a vendor’s QR code with a smartphone, customers open a website where they can pay vendors via any online payment service (android pay, paypal, etc.). Payments are processed and held in the vendor’s CoPago account. Once paid, the vendor receives a text message confirming the transaction and hands over the goods. Vendors are then able to withdraw their earnings at the CoPago market terminal. Money is processed and stored as stablecoin cryptocurrency to protect against economic volatility and facilitate cross-currency transactions.
