I am a graphic designer, educator, and creative leader whose work explores how storytelling and immersive design experiences can connect people, ideas, and communities. As a Professor of Graphic Design at Virginia Tech and a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology, I have spent my career building bridges between education and professional practice. My work spans typography, branding, user experience, motion design, and emerging technologies, with a particular interest in creating meaningful, human-centered experiences. Whether developing immersive installations, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, or mentoring students, I view design as a catalyst for engagement and empathy. Beyond the classroom, I have served the design community through leadership roles with AIGA’s Design Educators Community and as a docent emeritus for the Letterform Archive. I am also the co-author of three books: • Working with Design Clients: Tools and Advice for Successful Partnerships (Bloomsbury, 2024: Dee and Meharry) • Guiding Principles for Inclusive Design Values: Reimagining Design Education & Practice (Rockport/Quarto, 2026: Berry, Dee, Tegtmeyer) • Design Unbound: How Experimentation Enhances Creativity (Routledge, 2027: Dee, Khalili, Landa) I also co-founded, with Bree McMahon, the traveling exhibition, m(other)ing, (https://instagram.com/m_other_ing), featuring over 89 designers. We created a call for works about motherhood, womb-bearing bodies, and reproductive journeys to create space for these artifacts to make impact and connect creators. A recent project includes, The Nikki Giovanni Immersive Experience (https://meaghand.com/myportfolio/nikkigiovanni), which combines Giovanni’s poetry with audio soundscapes and motion-graphics projections. This interdisciplinary team designed a 3-walled projection, strove to capture the essence of Giovanni's poetry, drawing inspiration from its themes, imagery, and rhythmic cadence. Throughout my career, I have been committed to advancing design education and empowering the next generation of designers. I believe the most impactful design work emerges when creativity and community come together to create positive change.
