North American Casualty Group (NAC) is a family of insurance and reinsurance companies with financial
strength grounded in a commitment to excellence. Our collection of carriers has been given top ratings
by AM Best for their excellent ability to meet ongoing obligations to their policyholders.
After the acquisition of the North American Casualty Group from Berkshire Hathaway by Applied
Underwriters, our goal was to create a unique experience that would convey confidence, leadership and
stability. The design would need the flexibility to contain sub-brands while remaining cohesive and true
to the overarching North American Casualty brand.
We wanted a unique design that stood out when visiting the site. A classic, hand-drawn, illustrative
approach was used to convey the stability and leadership of the brand. The same treatment was applied
to each of the carriers as well, with a unifying color pallet, making the brand visually cohesive and
confident.
For the overall web experience, we wanted to balance out the traditional, hand-drawn illustrations with
a clean, modern look to convey confidence and leadership. Animated transitions and parallax
animations were also applied to enhance the overall experience and provide a cutting-edge experience.
It was important to have a seamless user experience regardless of the user’s device or browser. Much
work was done to ensure this.
Since the website’s launch on September 25th, 2020, we have been successful in tying all carriers under
one brand, with a steady user base able to access the website across multiple devices and browsers. The
new layout created an efficient way to showcase our carriers while giving room for more to come in the
future.
Our direction was led by Nathan Wells, lead design by Hudson George and illustrations by Steven Noble
